Our Hawaiian Family Fun Party Day
Our Hawaiian Fun Day was full of happy faces, families dressed in costumes, plenty of laughter, a variety of stalls and the pool area was specially decorated for the occasion . Yes, it was August and, of course, the sun shone brightly, so you could have been mistaken for thinking we were in Hawaii!
Hundreds of people filed in to join us. We had a full on energy Aqua Aerobics where 92 people took part – tiny children in their parent’s arms, lots of children, teenagers and others loved the high intensity activity – all beaming with smiles. Thank you to Paula for giving up her time to do this for us.
Soon after that we had our first, of two, Water Safety demonstrations – our Lifeguards explained how to stay calm in the water and then demonstrated rescues. Both adults and young people volunteered to be rescued. We had a large banner up to reinforce safety in the water as well as flyers for people to take home with them.
Throughout the afternoon tasty food was being freshly cooked by Jim, one of our volunteers, and ably supported by Val and David. Thanks to them for all their hard work slaving over a hot plate in a heatwave.
All day, the stalls were active with people trying their luck on the Tombolas, Hook a Duck, Book Lucky Dip and buying cards of the pool. Half way through the afternoon, we had a call from Radio Gloucester, asking if they could come along and interview us. Rahkee duly arrived, and interviewed many of the people who were enjoying cooling off in the warm spring water; the interviews were broadcasted on Gloucester Radio four times the following day.
It was such a brilliant day – wonderful visitors who appreciated our very special pool. All of this wouldn’t have been possible, without our amazing volunteers, who helped with the organisation before the day, plus about 25 helping on the day. Our Lifeguards and Duty Managers were busy throughout the day – keeping everyone safe, being very professional and joining it with the demonstrations.
A very successful day.
