General Information about the Pool
The pool is open from mid-May until mid-September. We are open from 7am to 7pm from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm on Saturdays and 9am to 6pm on Sundays. There are different sessions each day, so please check the ‘Pool Timetable’ for details of each day's sessions.
No, we are only open from mid May to mid September.
The reason is Cirencester Open Air Swimming Pool is run and maintained entirely by volunteers in their spare time. The only people we employ are our lifeguards and they are mainly recruited from the student community. As such they are only available outside of college/university terms. Therefore, we just do not have the resources available to open the pool all year round. In addition, the cost of heating the outdoor pool during the colder months would be prohibitively expensive against any revenue we could make outside the summer months.
Yes, we have lane only swimming sessions under the heading ‘Lane Swims’ on our booking page, which need to be pre-booked. You may also request a lane to available during ‘General Swim’ sessions.
Here at Cirencester Open Air Swimming Pool, we are proud of our beautiful setting and are happy for you to take photographs of your friends and family enjoying their visit. However, in line with our safeguarding responsibilities, we do not allow you to take photographs of people you do not know, or any photographs inside the changing rooms.
No, unless it is an assistance dog. You also need to discuss this with the Pool Manager prior to entry and someone(a non swimmer) needs to be responsible for the dog while on site.
Yes. We have a Children's play pool which is open during 'family' swim sessions, General, 'Drop in' and Parent & Toddler. The children's pool is heated to the same temperature as the main pool (around 27°C).
We aim to keep the pool water temperature at around 26°C. Water is drawn from a natural spring well and heated by a heat exchanger, which is like a reverse radiator. The pool water passes through a tube which is contains small pipes filled with hot water from the heating boiler and draws the heat from it. Chemicals are added to the water to remove any bacteria in line with government and Swim England guidelines.
The pool takes 375 cubic metres or 82,500 gallons of water, taking 3 days to fill at the start of the season.
The children's play pool uses the same methods for heating and cleansing.
The main pool is 27.5 metres long
We have changing facilities on site for male, female and baby changing facilities. For disabled visitors we also have a separate changing room available
There are small lockers available for your possessions. Please note they are small and not designed to take lots of items. You will need a £1 coin (refundable) for each locker.
There are hot showers and hair dryers in each changing room (requires 20p coins).
There is no car parking on the site of the pool, as the pool is located on a walking path with no road access. However, there are a number of pay and display car parks close to the pool. To check parking and to find directions to the pool, go to the Directions Page. If you need disabled access, please contact the pool.
The Pool is located on Riverside Walk, close to Cirencester Park.
